Are You Winning?

Keys to leading a healthy small group

Competitors always make sure they know what it takes to win.  My high school basketball coach made it very clear to us that “moral victories” were not real victories. We win when at the end of the game we have more points than the opposing team. In sports it’s usually pretty easy to tell who is winning simply by looking at the score.  However, answering the question “Are you winning?” and applying the answer to our own lives can be more challenging. According to the Bible, it is important for us to define our win, so we know if we are fulfilling God’s purpose.

Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained. Proverbs 29:18

Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. Habakuk 2:2

As we continue to seek God and plan for multiplied growth within our small groups, we must answer the question, “Are we winning?” At Church of the King, we know we are winning in our small groups when we…

  1. Provide Community – Are people getting connected in life-giving relationships?
  2. Promote growth – Are people growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ?
  3. Produce leaders – Are we reproducing godly leaders who Reach People and Build Lives?

Take a few minutes and ask yourself the following questions about those you are leading.

  • Am I providing community for those who are seeking to grow closer to God through the relationships in their life (Hebrews 10:24-25)?
  • Am I promoting growth for those who are seeking to draw closer to God and become more Christ-like (James 1:23-25)?
  • Am I producing leaders who will effectively reach people and build lives (Matthew 9:35-38)?

Prayer point: Ask God to give you wisdom on how to “win” by providing community, promoting growth, and producing leaders.
