Are You Living a Focused Summer?

Adapted from Eddie Mosely’s article eddiemosley.wordpress.com

Between planning vacation, entertaining my kids, involving them in different camps, my primary summer goal quickly became maintaining a semblance of sanity!

It was easy for me to become sidetracked by activities until I realized I was not in my neighborhood, my community, involved in sports or part of a small group only for ME. It’s not about all the “what’s” on my schedule, but the “Who’s” in my life.

God has given us these opportunities to influence people toward Him.  When my family participates in summertime parties, sits by the pool during swim lessons, has small group get-togethers, or spends time talking to neighbors while on an evening walk I am giving myself times to show the love Christ.  These are opportunities, if we are intentional, to help people move closer to being Christ-like.

Influencing people toward Christ this summer is not something extra!  It is not something to add to our schedules.  It is being intentional and thinking about where God has planted us and the hobbies He has placed in our hearts.  We must be intentional when we talk with people in our everyday summer activities.

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”  Romans 10:14 (NLT)

Who involved in your child’s activities may not be a Christian or could use some encouragement?

Who could you invite to your pool party that is not connected to a Small Group or Church?

Who lives on your street in need of a smile, words of encouragement or maybe an invite to your cookout?

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.”  Romans 15:5 (NIV)

How will your summer end differently because you intentionally focused on the “Who’s” rather than the “What’s”?
